Περίληψη :	Στη παρούσα εργασία εξετάζεται η σχέση μεταξύ της παγκόσμιας ζήτησης αργού πετρελαίου και των μεταβλητών που την επηρεάζουν. Καθώς η βιομηχανία πετρελαίου χαρακτηρίζεται από υπερβολική αστάθεια, όπως η κυκλικότητα και εποχικότητα, αρχικά δίνεται σημασία στην εξέταση του εμπορίου αργού πετρελαίου. Αυτό που καθιστά την εξέταση του αργού πετρελαίου πραγματικά ενδιαφέρουσα είναι το γεγονός ότι γεωπολιτικοί κίνδυνοι, όπως οι επιθέσεις πειρατείας και η τρομοκρατία, επηρεάζουν την εξόρυξη και τη μεταφορά του. Παρ’ όλα αυτά, τέτοιοι κίνδυνοι ήταν δύσκολο να ποσοτικοποιηθούν, οδηγώντας το 2018, τους Caldara και Iacoviello, στη δημιουργία του δείκτη γεωπολιτικού κινδύνου, ο οποίος υπολογίζει τις εντάσεις μεταξύ των χωρών – και όχι μόνο. Επιπλέον, πλήθος οικονομετρικών μοντέλων που χτίζονται με βάση τους συντελεστές προσφοράς και ζήτησης, έχουν εξεταστεί. Η επιλογή των μεταβλητών της ανάλυσης του πρώτου μοντέλου είναι με βάση παρόμοια βιβλιογραφική ανασκόπηση, χρησιμοποιώντας ως δείγμα την περίοδο των τελευταίων 22 ετών, εστιάζοντας σε εκείνα που ενδέχεται να επηρεάσουν περισσότερο την παγκόσμια ζήτηση του αργού πετρελαίου. Στη δεύτερη εξέταση που πραγματοποιήσαμε, αναλύσαμε τα περιστατικά πειρατείας ως έναν σημαντικό γεωπολιτικό παράγοντα κινδύνου Τα αποτελέσματα της εμπειρικής μας έρευνας, έδειξαν ότι η ζήτηση συσχετίζεται σε μεγάλο βαθμό με την παγκόσμια παραγωγή πετρελαίου και τις τιμές του. Τέλος, όσον αφορά το δεύτερο μοντέλο που μελετήθηκε, η ανάλυση έδειξε ότι οι ναύλοι μειώνονται αναδρομικά, όταν ο δείκτης γεωπολιτικού κινδύνου αυξάνεται. What it has been examined in the past months and the objective of this research, is the relationship between the global demand for crude oil and the variables that affect it. What has been firstly addressed, is the importance of examining the crude oil trade, since the oil industry is characterized by excess volatility, such as cyclicality and seasonality. What makes examining crude oil really interesting is the fact that geopolitical risks, such as piracy attacks and terrorism, are quite present in clutch points of oil trading regions. Since, such risks are difficult to be quantitative, in 2018, Caldara and Iacoviello, are creating the geopolitical risk index, which calculates tensions between regions, and, a solution is found in the quantification of the risk. Numerous econometric models, that are built based on the factors of supply and demand, have been examined. The choice of variables of the first model’s analysis is based on a similar literature review, using as a sample the period of the past 22 years, focusing on those that may affect the global crude oil demand the most. Their relationship is further studied by performing a regression analysis. The second aspect examined is piracy incidents as a significant geopolitical risk factor. Inclusively, the results of our empirical research demonstrated that demand is highly correlated with global oil production and crude oil prices. In regards to the second model studied, the analysis showed that freight rates decline retroactively when the geopolitical risk index rises. Tests to validate the results of our analysis are performed throughout our dissertation.

Στη παρούσα εργασία εξετάζεται η σχέση μεταξύ της παγκόσμιας ζήτησης αργού πετρελαίου και των μεταβλητών που την επηρεάζουν. Καθώς η βιομηχανία πετρελαίου χαρακτηρίζεται από υπερβολική αστάθεια, όπως η κυκλικότητα και εποχικότητα, αρχικά δίνεται σημασία στην εξέταση του εμπορίου αργού πετρελαίου.
