The number of species in a biological community, usually referred to as species richness, represents the simplest and most direct indicator of ecological diversity. Since scientists cannot detect each plant or animal in a region, species richness is an unknown parameter of the community under study. This project proposes a new method for estimating species richness based on the stochastic approach and models.
