Τεκμήριο The great green transition: the rationale, motives & paths towards a green economy(2022) Giagkou, Angeliki; Γιάγκου, Αγγελική; Athens University of Economics and Business, Department of International and European Economic Studies; Chatzistamoulou, Nikos; Chalkos, Georgios; Koundouri, PhoebeDespite the heavy dependency of economic growth upon environmental conservation, natural resources have not always been perceived as a precondition of our survival and growth, but rather as commodities of a free market. Given that economic development and social welfare have been thriving against a worsening natural environment, it is imperative that we alter our habitual behavior, otherwise climate-related events are expected to highly devalue the global economy in the coming decades. In this regard, financial innovation is considered to be a prime mover.
